Clearance to Launch

Posted on Fri Nov 20th, 2009 @ 6:32am by Lieutenant Commander Howard Murdock

Mission: The Rescue
Location: Bridge
Timeline: Current

Upon hearing the order to get the clearance to launch, the Texan helm officer watched and listened as the new Chief of Operations got the clearance from the space dock.

"You are cleared for launch, and good luck," came the response over the speakers on the bridge.

"Mr. Murdock, take us out," Captain Ja'arda ordered.

"Yes, sir," he responded with a bit of a grin on his face. Sure, this ship was temporary, but the chance to take it out of space dock was a first for him. It was kind of like opening presents on Christmas morning.

His hands flew across the console, finding that many of the controls were similar to what had been on the console of the Zealous. While this ship seemed to have a separation sequence, it didn't offer a three-way separation like that of the Prometheus-class. That would probably make it a lot easier, even if things were done manually.

"Firing docking thrusters," he noted as he began to see the ship slowly start moving towards the openness of space.

"Once we're clear, take us to full impulse until we get past Jupiter. Then, lay in an intercept course for the other ship at maximum warp," she informed him.

Mudock nodded and again his fingers flew across the console as he started to set up for those changes in course and speed. One good thing about this system is that it seemed to allow for multiple course plottings, which meant he could pre-program in various destinations in advance and just activate them with the appropriate speed when the word was given. This was definitely something that . . . if there was going to be a new Zealous . . . he'd want them to make sure was included in the specs. It sure would make his job a whole heck of a lot easier.

Within moments, the hulking frame of the spacedock was out of their view and they were clearly on their way . . .
